Actor and music artist Tyrese Gibson’s clash with Fast & Furious franchise co-star Dwayne Johnson continues, with Gibson declaring today that he would back out of the series if Johnson returned for Fast 9.
Gibson made his announcement via his personal Instagram account, writing, “I’m sorry to announce that if Dewayne [sic] is in Fast9 there will no more Roman Peirce [sic].”
Gibson proceeded to refer to Johnson as a “clown” and a “selfish champ.”
Gibson’s anger at Johnson is linked to the upcoming Fast & Furious spin-off in the pipe for Johnson and Jason Statham, due to hit theatres July 26, 2019. In a previous Instagram post Gibson admitted that he “was just mad that [Johnson] was “pitched” an idea privately and said yes to it without thinking of what I’m dealing with personally.”
Gibson is currently locked in a court battle with his ex-wife concerning the pair’s 10-year-old daughter which, according to Gibson, has left him “almost broke.”
“[A]ll I asked you to do “privately” was NOT accept a role that would deeply effect [sic] us all,” wrote Gibson.
Originally slated to arrive in 2019, Fast and Furious 9 was officially pushed to 2020 to make space for the Johnson/Statham spin-off. Gibson immediately blamed Johnson for the delay, though series stalwart Vin Diesel responded to the chatter, insisting that it was “unfair’ to blame anybody for the next film in the hugely-popular franchise being postponed for a year.
Late last month Diesel strongly hinted that director Justin Lin and co-star Jordana Brewster will be returning for Fast and Furious 9 and 10.
