How to Transfer Pokemon Between Sun/Moon and Ultra Sun/Moon

This page describes how to trade Pokemon, whether locally with friends or online with randoms, in Pokemon Sun and Moon and Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.

You can trade Pokemon with friends either locally or online in Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon and Sun and Moon with the same methods. Follow the instructions below for Local and Online for all Generation 7 games, including Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon.

This is rather simple to accomplish anywhere in the Alola Region! Both you and your trading partner must press X to open the menu and tap the "Quick Link" option. Then, both of you must press down on the touch screen to connect with each other. From there, you can choose to trade or battle! You can do this as soon as the first Pokemon Center is found.

Online trades require both you and your friend to connect to the internet and follow a few extra steps. 

1. Connect your 3DS to the internet:  To set up an internet connection, open your 3DS' System Settings (the Wrench Icon) => Internet Settings => Connection Settings => New Connection. Follow the prompts to connect the 3DS to your WiFi connection.

2. Register your friend to your 3DS' Friend List: From the main menu, click the Friend List icon (the orange square smiley face) at the top. Then cllick "Register Friend." If you're next to eachother, you can both choose "Local" to automatically add eachother to your friend lists. Otherwise, you will need to choose "Internet" and exchange Friend Codes. You can see your Friend Code by looking at your own Friend Card. 

3. Access the Festival Plaza:  Simply open the menu with X and choose "Festival Plaza." Make sure you're connected to the internet by pressing the blue WiFi button on the bottom right of your touch screen. If you're connected, it will say "Connected to the Internet" above the Battle and Trade options.

There are a few options to choose from once you click the Trade icon! If you want to trade with a registered friend, choose Link Trade.

• Link Trade - Request to trade with one of your Festival Plaza guests or a friend.

• GTS - With the "Global Trade System" you can search for Pokemon being offered up for trade by people from all over the world and deposit your own Pokemon for trade. This is a great way to obtain version exclusive Pokemon and the other Starter Pokemon!

• Wonder Trade - The Wonder Trade returns! Choose a Pokemon to trade and receive a random Pokemon from a random partner from anywhere in the world.

You can also use Pokemon Bank to bulk transfer many Pokemon between versions. However, keep in mind no items can be transferred to Pokemon Bank. See How to Transfer Your Old Pokemon to Sun and Moon for more information on Pokemon Bank.
