Star Wars: Lucasfilm Plans on More Rey and Finn Movies Beyond Episode 9

"...we're talking about the next 10 years of Star Wars stories..."

Lucasfilm has revealed it is exploring ways of continuing the stories of Star Wars: The Force Awakens characters beyond Episode IX.

Possible spoilers may follow for The Last Jedi and Episode IX

On the weekly Star Wars Show web series president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy talked about the future of Star Wars and some of its characters, including that the studio hopes to continue Rey, Finn, and others' stories.

"We're sitting down now, we're talking about the next 10 years of Star Wars stories, and we're looking at, narratively, where that might go," Kennedy said. "Future stories beyond Episode IX with these new characters: Rey, Poe, Finn, BB-8 — but we're also looking at working with people who are interested in coming into the Star Wars world and taking us places we haven't been yet. That's exciting too, because it's a vast galaxy far, far away."

Though they would certainly not be the first characters to transcend trilogies or have their pasts explored like Han Solo and maybe even Obi-Wan, Kennedy's statements would imply that at least this group of Force Awakens characters would survive long enough to continue appearing in future films. Though, of course, the rise of anthology, "A Star Wars Story"—branded films means new movies could take place at any point in the franchise's timeline.

We'll certainly find out at least the next chapter in these characters' stories, as Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15. Recent looks at the film have showcased that Luke Skywalker returns to the Millennium Falcon, while a recent report revealed theaters are paying a high toll to Disney for being able to screen the film.
