Green Lantern's Mark Strong is reportedly in talks to play the villain in Shazam!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Strong, who portrayed the classic DC villain Thaal Sinestro in Green Lantern, is in early talks to star as Thaddeus Sivana a.k.a. Doctor Sivana, Shazam's longtime arch-nemesis.
Doctor Sivana made his debut in 1940's Whiz Comics No. 2 and is a mad scientist with a penchant for ridiculous inventions that no one can understand. Strong would star opposite Zachary Levi, who will portray Earth's Mightiest Mortal in the upcoming DC Comics film adaptation.
Shazam! tells the story of a boy named Billy Batson, who, by simply saying "Shazam!" can transform into an adult superhero. Last year, Shazam! was divided into two films, with Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam getting his own standalone DC film that's being developed alongside Shazam. Black Adam appear in Shazam.
David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation) is on board to direct the film, and back in August, he confirmed the film's script is complete, indicating that Shazam! is the next DCEU movie to start filming. Filming is expected to start this coming February in Toronto.
