Disney Sets Steep Conditions for Theaters to Show Star Wars: The Last Jedi

One could say they are being forced.

Disney has set some steep conditions for theaters to abide by if they want to show the latest in the epic sci-fi saga Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

The Wall Street Journal reports (via Gizmodo) that Disney has upped its take in the usual revenue share of ticket sales from the Hollywood standard 55 to 65 percent.

Along with this increase which is reported to be "a new benchmark", Disney is also demanding theaters reserve the largest auditorium exclusively for The Last Jedi for at least four weeks.

Violating these terms or canceling even a single screening without permission from Disney may see a theater charged an additional five percent of ticket revenue as the penalty.

The high consumer demand for The Last Jedi, box-office sales being down, and Disney's significant market share leaves theaters with little power to rebel against these terms.

The Last Jedi hits cinema on December 15 this year but star Adam Driver may have already spoiled Rey's identity.
