The directors of Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War have said that their upcoming movie is a heist film.
In an interview with CNET, directors Joe and Anthony Russo revealed that Infinity War borrows heavily from the heist film genre with the introduction of Thanos as a main character.
"With "Infinity War," the biggest new element to the movie is Thanos and the fact that he's entering the storytelling in a very bold, strong way, to the degree that he's almost one of the leads. We've shaped an interesting narrative around him that in some ways leans heavily on a heist film in the fact that he's going after the infinity stones in a much bolder, successful way than he has in the past. The entire movie has that energy of the bad guy being one step ahead of the heroes. We looked at a lot of movies that had that heist-style energy to them, [and] that brought some inspiration," says Anthony Russo.
He also made comment on drawing inspiration from the comics for both story and technology used in the films saying "We also look into the comics themselves for ideas. We may end up doing a different iteration, but a lot of the ideas are sourced from the comics."
Avengers: Infinity War doesn't hit cinema until May 4, 2018, but there may be some snippets in Thor: Ragnarok's post-credit scenes and a few familiar faces have been cast to hint at what we are in for.
