Jim in a cage, Ivy grows in age, a city full of rage, and more.
Now that we know Gotham will return for a fifth and (shortened) final season</a> next year - and that series creator Bruno Heller has a new Alfred Pennyworth series headed to Epic - it's time to look back at the most insane stunts and storylines the show's ever pulled off.
"I don't think there was necessarily one place or one moment where we decided that anything goes," EP/showrunner John Stephens told us. "I think it was really just done by taking one step and then taking another step and so on. And then you turn around and see where you are and how far you've come and you're miles from where you actually began."
"Overall though," he said, "we do want the show to feel like a place where anything can happen."
And Gotham is definitely that. From crazy citywide attacks to miraculous resurrections to wonderfully bizarre character arcs - this show has practically done it all. And with Season 4's finale - airing Thursday, May 17th - leading us into the show's version of the "No Man's Land" arc, it's clear that Season 5, while only 13 episodes, will be filled with just as much insanity.
Check out the slideshow below for some of the most out-there and outrageous stories from Gotham. Some are tweaked versions of comic storylines while others are show-specific madness.
There you have it. The loopiest things Gotham's done over the past four seasons. Stay tuned for tonight's Season 4 finale as alliances in the underworld shift, Bruce makes a choice about his future, and Jeremiah tries to warn Jim about more mass destruction on the horizon.
