Xbox One Is Getting a New Guide - Here's the First Look

A guide to the Guide.

Microsoft's Mike Ybarra has given us the first look at the soon-to-be upgraded Xbox Guide function.

As spotted by Eurogamer, Ybarra briefly showed the new menu design on a Beam stream last night (skip to 10:25 for the moment). Here it is in static form:

The new Guide changes how the Xbox One's Home button works. Instead of a single press taking you back to the console's main menu, an overlay will now pop in from the left, offering quicker access to recently-used games and apps, GameDVR settings and the Xbox Store.

According to an Xbox Wire post, the update will "also add a new Achievement tracking overlay, Gamerscore Leaderboard, a new Cortana design, and controls for background music, making these features easier to use."

When asked by stream viewers when Xbox Preview Programme members would be able to test a beta version of the new guide, Ybarra replied that it will be, "starting on a rolling basis - so not all Preview people would get it - but we're hoping sometime next week."

We got another important update for the Xbox One platform today - the release of a gigantic pool inflatable in the shape of an Xbox One S controller.
