The Division Surprise-Reveals Its New Survival Expansion

The Survival expansion gets a proper survival mode.

The Division's upcoming Survival expansion will feature a new game mode that turns the shooter into a multiplayer survival game.

The optional mode, which was revealed during a developer livestream today, via Kotaku, will take place on the same full map as the base game, but with a twist. A blizzard has covered the city and Division agents need to reach the center of Manhattan to retrieve vital antiviral drugs.

The helicopter carrying the agents crashes, though, and up to 24 players are scattered around the map with the goal of reaching the center before succumbing to death from extreme conditions. Starting with only low-level gear, a pistol, and no skills, players will have to manage hunger, sickness, cold, and dehydration systems to survive.

To battle these conditions, players need to scavenge the map to find supplies and better gear. Clothing items now carry a cold rating on them, meaning some will warm you better than others. Shelter and fire barrels will also help keep you warm.

New hideouts have also been added, where players can go for crafting. The mode can be played by anyone who has the DLC regardless of level and both PvP and PvE options will be available. With no respawning or mini-map, those that complete the mode and reach the center without dying will earn the best rewards.

No release date for the Survival expansion, which was delayed earlier this year, has been given, but PC players who purchased The Division's season pass before last Thursday will be able to try out a beta version of the game mode starting today.

Last week, Ubisoft revealed that The Division has more than 10 million registered players. Are you one of them? Be sure to check out our comprehensive Division wiki guide for helpful tips.
