A young Albus Dumbledore will appear in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel, director David Yates has revealed.
Speaking to Screen Rant, Yates confirmed that Dumbledore will be in the second film, though the role has not yet been cast.
“In the second movie Dumbledore comes back. He’s got a couple of good scenes with Newt… We’re discussing who would play Dumbledore, any suggestions would be good," Yates said during a roundtable interview, according to Screen Rant.
J.K. Rowling has previously discussed how the series will explore the history of Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald, but has not elaborated to what extent both characters will be involved in the upcoming films.
The Harry Potter author, and writer behind Fantastic Beasts' screenplay, also recently revealed the Fantastic Beasts series of films will extend to include five movies and not just three as originally announced.
Little else is known about the sequel, but Johnny Depp was recently announced to have a role in the upcoming second entry.
The Fantastic Beasts sequel is currently set for a November 18, 2018 release. David Yates is set to return as director and Rowling, as well as David Heyman, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram, will return as producers.
