Watch Dogs 2 is nearly upon us. While Ubisoft’s original Chicago-based open-world game was revealed long before its eventual May 2014 release, the studio smartly waited until just before this year’s E3 to reveal the sequel. Set in San Francisco, we’ve really dug everything we’ve seen so far of the game.
Here’s everything you need to know about Watch Dogs 2 leading up to its November 15 release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
After a few weeks of rumors revolving around a possible new location and new protagonist, Ubisoft revealed Watch Dogs 2 on June 8, 2016. The series of trailers and features showcased Marcus Holloway, the new setting of San Francisco, and the new lighter tone of the sequel.
A few days after the reveal, we got a chance to go hands-on with Watch Dogs 2 at E3 2016. We really liked the fact that the sequel pivoted away from the overly-serious tone of the original, and showcased a world that focused more on fun and chaos. This was particularly true in Marcus, San Francisco as a setting, and the more user-friendly approach to hacking.
Also coming out of E3 was news that DLC would appear first on the PlayStation 4.
The next big beat after E3 was Gamescom, and Ubisoft focused on the changes and improvements made to the multiplayer portions of the game. Our biggest takeaway was just how fun the new Bounty Hunter mode was — once you commit enough carnage, another human player is drawn into your world. If they kill you, they got a ton of Followers (XP). If you escape, you reap the benefits.
A month later in September, we got a chance to capture quite a bit of gameplay fro Watch Dogs 2. Everything from new types of hacking and your two drone buddies, to exploring the city of San Francisco. Check it all out below.
Oh, you like hacking, and drones, and RC cars? Well, here you go!
Wait, you don't like hacking? You want to whip out that shotgun and go guns blazing? Got you covered.
You want to race drones? You like motorcycles? Of course you do.
What's worse than driving through San Francisco traffic? Driving through San Francisco traffic, chased by the cops. Exactly.
Hey! Ever wanted to drive other people around for fun and profit? Well, Watch Dogs 2 is embracing the "app culture" by letting you drive normies around and also go over some sweet jumps for, you know, whatever. Enjoy!
Ubisoft dove deeper in who Marcus is and what his journey throughout the game will be in this story trailer.

As a part of our October IGN First, we talked with the team at Ubisoft Montreal about how the sequel took feedback from the original, and aims to deliver on that initial promise.
Also as a part of our IGN First, we dove deeper into how multiplayer is being seamlessly folded in to the single-player campaign to create a single, cohesive experience. We got to go hands-on with about five hours of multiplayer (both co-op and competitive), and we're happy to say that we loved the amount of freedom we had to create our own brand of creative fun.

After a really effective reveal just before E3 and the surprise news that it would be released just a few months later, we had one single hope for Watch Dogs 2 — that it would take the solid framework built by the original and confidently add meat to the bones, much like Assassin’s Creed 2 did for that series. Well, after spending over five hours getting into all sorts of trouble across the entirety of Watch Dogs 2’s depiction of the Bay Area, we were happy to report that it seems like Ubisoft has done just that.
