The Batman: Deathstroke Actor on Ben Affleck's Solo Film

A surprising "fresh take" that will satisfy fans.

Joe Manganiello, who's set to star as Deathstroke in Ben Affleck's upcoming Batman solo film, has come forward to express his excitement for The Batman and praise Affleck's skills as a filmmaker.

In an interview with Mark Madden (via ComicBookMovie), Manganiello said Affleck's film is going to offer a "fresh take" on Batman that will surprise viewers.

"It's a road that no one's really gone down that’s completely integral to, you know, who Batman is," he said, elaborating that the film will feel "refreshing but at the same time completely familiar."

Manganiello also expressed his confidence in the film's ability to satisfy fans, saying "it's going to take this franchise in a direction that I think a lot of people are going to be really happy about. It's going to be gritty and action packed and cerebral and all of those elements that people love about Batman."

With regard to Affleck, Manganiello praised his skills as a director and his Oscar-winning talent as writer.

"Everything is lined up for a really, really, really great movie," he said, adding that it won't just be a great superhero film, "but just a great, great movie."

The Batman will begin filming this coming spring, and, according to recent comments from Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes, will likely hit theaters sometime in 2018.
