Ubisoft May Make a Netflix Series, According to CEO

Nothing about the series is known at this time.

Ubisoft is in talks to make a new series with Netflix, CEO Yves Guillemot announced on Monday.

Although nothing else in known about what the show could be, the series is in an effort to keep Ubisoft independent in the midst of pressure from shareholder Vivendi, according to a Reuters report.

Vivendi began purchasing shares in Ubisoft late last year and continued to do so after acquiring Gameloft in June. The French mass media company ruled out making a Ubisoft hostile takeover bid in October, but currently holds more than 20 percent of shares, according to Reuters. Guillemot has called the potential of a Vivendi takeover a "disaster".

The publisher already has a film and television division of its own titled Ubisoft Motion Pictures, which is producing the upcoming Assassin's Creed movie, as well as projects based on The Division (starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain) and Splinter Cell, with Tom Hardy. The company has also previously released an interactive Rabbids TV show.

Ubisoft isn't the only game company to have interest in a Netflix series - Activision's film and television division just released a Skylanders animated series on the streaming service.
