There's a Monster Hunter Announcement This Week - But It's Not a Nintendo Switch Game

That's the truth, we ain't Felyne.

Nintendo has announced that it will be broadcasting another of its Direct livestreams this Thursday, October 27. The show will be exclusively themed around Monster Hunter.

The Direct was announced on Twitter as a Japanese-focused announcement - an interesting move, given that all currently announced Monster Hunter games have been released in Japan at this point.

Some were quick to jump to the conclusion that it would be an announcement of a game on a new platform for Nintendo - however, a Google Translate job on the Direct website indicates that there will be no news on Monster Hunter titles for either smartphone or Nintendo Switch.

That means it will certainly be for a 3DS or Wii U game. It could be as simple as new DLC or tie-in Amiibo for Monster Hunter Generations or Monster Hunter Stories. It could also be a "G" upgrade for Monster Hunter Generations (Japanese Monster Hunter games often receive an updated new version with tougher end-game trials and tweaked systems).

As Nintendo Life points out, the announcement also uses the Monster Hunter logo from the original 2004 PS2 game - there's a chance this could indicate an incoming remaster or throwback content of some kind.

Whatever it turns out to be, we'll find out at 8pm JST - that's 4am Pacific / 7am Eastern / 12pm UK / 9pm AEST. Make sure to head back to IGN for the full rundown.
