Today Justice League #26 offered a glimpse of the next generation of DC's preeminent super-team.
Warning: this article contains spoilers for Justice League #26!
This issue kicked off a new storyline called "Legacy," one that builds on a number of loose ends from writer Bryan Hitch's previous Justice League and Justice League of America work. Much of this issue takes place in a dystopian future ruled by an Olympian monarch called "The Sovereign." Standing in her way are a new generation of Justice Leaguers, all of whom appear to be descended from the present-day League. The issue ends with the future League travelling back in time to meet their parents.
The leader of this strange band of heroes is Hunter Prince, the son of Superman and Wonder Woman. That's an interesting twist given that DC backed away from the Superman/Wonder Woman romance that made headlines in the New 52 era. In this dark future, it seems like the two rekindled their relationship.
Other characters in this new Justice League include Serenity (the daughter of Aquaman), twin Lanterns Jason and Jenny, Cruise (daughter of Flash and Green Lantern Jessica Cruz) and Cube (the daughter of Cyborg).
This issue also revealed that Aquaman has survived the destruction of the original Justice League, though not without paying a heavy price. He apparently bonded his ruined body to Cybrog's mechanical parts, effectively making himself the new Cyborg.
The Sovereign herself also appears here. While her identity isn't revealed, the implication seems to be that she's a twisted version member of the Amazons, potentially even Wonder Woman herself..
Let us know what you think of these new characters and the prospect of Superman and Wonder Woman having a son in the comments below.
