Life Is Strange Dev Partners With Bandai for New Game

An official title and release date will be announced next year.

Life is Strange and Vampyr developer Dontnod Entertainment is partnering with Bandai Namco for a new, narrative-based adventure game.

The new game, which has been in development since 2016, will feature "a fair dose of investigation" and take place in a fictional U.S. city, according to MCV. An official title, available platforms, and a release date will all be revealed when the game is officially announced sometime in 2018.

Moving forward, the publisher is looking for half of its business to be made up by new IPs. Hervé Hoerdt, Bandai Namco's VP of marketing and digital, says "developing long-term partnerships with a few studios," such as Dontnod, is an important step to accomplishing that goal.

"Dontnod was a kind of rough diamond — very much a rising star, I would say — and with the success of Life is Strange, it's the first big player in terms of quality business model, vision, and we think that's a good strategy that fits," Hoerdt told MCV. "It was the right moment, so we decided to partner [with them]."

Speaking about the new IP, he added: "Obviously, with a studio like Dontnod, you can expect triple-A quality; you can expect a very emotional experience, and this is what we were looking for, like with some kind of investigation and going deep into the psychology of the characters, and giving emotion to the player. This is what we're aiming for with this partnership."

The French developer has also been working on Life Is Strange 2 since 2016. However, Bandai Namco says development on the new game won't affect progress on the anticipated sequel, as it's being handled by a separate team within Dontnod.

The studio's next game, Vampyr, is an action RPG due out this November on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Check out IGN's Vampyr preview to read why it's shaping up to be a more interesting take on the vampire myth.
