Overwatch: Sombra Art Leaks, All But Confirms New Character

¿Quién es Sombra? ¡Esto es Sombra!

You know how we were all wondering whether that leaked character model of Sombra was the real deal, or a very convincing fake? Yeah, you can probably shelve that argument - we were looking at our next Overwatch (anti-)hero.

Spotted on Reddit, a now-removed piece of art of the new character - who has been the subject of a months-long ARG - had been hosted on Blizzard's merchandise website. It has now been preserved on Imgur (embedded below) - and it matches last month's leak in almost every respect.

So let's dig into that art a little. It's always a little risky to draw too much from a concept piece, but we can almost certainly say that this character is the omnic-hacking individual who's been narrating the Sombra ARG, and that the talons we'd pointed out previously appear to be her interface mechanism with machines.

Going a little more off-piste, the fact that she's in the palm of one of the Svyatogor mechs seen most prominently on the game's Volskaya Industries map has led some to believe her Ultimate ability might involve calling in some titan-sized aid.

As a quick recap, Sombra appears to be a prominent hacker who, after losing everything to the Omnic Crisis and working with the Los Muertos gang, began working alongside the game's antagonistic terrorist faction, Talon.

It seems almost certain that we'll get our formal introduction to Sombra at Blizzcon later this week. Personally, I'd expect her to appear on the PC's PTR server immediately, and be released fully for all platforms shortly afterwards. For reference, it was 10 days between the hero to be added, Ana's introduction on the PTR and her appearance on console.

If this all comes to pass, Sombra will be the first addition since the game's Halloween Terror event, which came to an end last night.
