Green Hornet Movie Reboot in the Works

Rebooting Britt Reid for a new generation.

A film reboot of The Green Hornet is in the works, and Gavin O’Connor is on board to direct.

According to Deadline, Paramount Pictures and Chernin Entertainment have secured the film rights and are moving forward with film that offers an edgier take on Britt Reid. O'Conner, whose directorial credits include The Accountant and Warrior, is working with writer Sean O'Keefe, who's been tapped to pen the script.

The Green Hornet graced the silver screen back in 2011 by way of Columbia Pictures. Thanks to it being such a costly endeavor, the Michel Gondry-directed film, which starred Seth Rogen, never got a sequel.

O'Conner has been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to reboot The Green Hornet, telling Deadline that for nearly 20 years he's been tracking the rights, and immediately tracked down the rights as soon as they were available and partnered with Peter Chernin before taking the movie to Paramount.

"My intention is to bring a gravitas to The Green Hornet that wipes away the camp and kitsch of the previous iteration," he said.

O'Conner shared his vision for the film, calling it "Batman upside down meets Bourne inside out by way of Chris Kyle [American Sniper]," calling Britt Reid "the anti-Bruce Wayne."
