Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare - No Cross-Network Play Between Steam and Windows Store Versions

"You can only play these titles with other users of Windows 10 on Windows Store."

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare Remastered will not offer cross-platform multiplayer support, even between PC versions of the game bought from different services.

According to a recent FAQ by Activision (via RockPaperShotgun.com), not only will PC players not be able to take on console gamers, those purchasing the game via different agencies on PC will also be unable to play together. This means players who have purchased the game through the Windows Store will not be able to play with those who bought the game through Steam, and vice versa.

“You can only play these titles with other users of Windows 10 on Windows Store,” Activision states, while Microsoft, questioned via Windows Central, said: “We support cross-play between devices and platforms for partners who want to enable it" - seemingly pointing to Activision being the source of the division in the PC audience.

In our Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare review in progress, we said: "2016 has been one of the best years for single-player shooter campaigns of the past decade. We’ve seen Doom, Titanfall 2, Gears of War 4, Battlefield 1, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided… and they're all better than Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s campaign."

While we've yet to reach a definitive verdict, if we "had to score it now" we'd give it a 7.7.
