A new wrestling comedy series from Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Will Ferrell is headed to Fox.
According to Variety, the project, which has received a put pilot commitment from the network, draws inspiration from "the real life experiences" of Johnson and former WWE writer Brian Gerwitz.
The show is said to provide a "behind-the-scenes look at a fictional professional wrestling outfit" and depict "the one-of-a-kind odd couple relationship" formed between a "painfully awkward comedy writer" who's new to the wrestling business, and a "charismatic young character" inspired by Johnson's days in the WWE.
Andrew Gurland (The Last Exorcism, Married) is on board to write the script for the pilot, with Johnson and Ferrell producing through their respective companies: Seven Bucks Productions and Gary Sanchez Productions.
Earlier this year, Johnson was named the world's highest paid actor, and is set to appear in several upcoming films, including Baywatch, Jumanji, and Shane Black's Doc Savage as The Man of Bronze.
