No More Official Switch Announcements to Come Until 2017

Flipping the switch in 2017.

While Nintendo officially revealed its latest console, the Nintendo Switch, this week, it appears the company won't have more to say on the upcoming system until 2017.

The Wall Street Journal reports that a spokesman for Nintendo confirmed no additional information about the Switch outside of its unveiling yesterday will come until next year, ahead of the console's planned March 2017 launch.

WSJ's Takashi Mochizuki clarified that "no more official announcement would come this year on 1) game titles 2) spec details, including region-lock status."

IGN has reached out to Nintendo for comment regarding the report and will update this story when the company responds.

The Switch's reveal came in the form of a trailer showcasing the console's ability to be played at home on a television or on the go using the system's tablet. IGN took a deep dive into everything we learned about the Switch from the trailer.

The first tease of the Switch also included footage of what appears to be a new Super Mario game, as well as Splatoon and Mario Kart — however both games included notable additions when compared to their Wii U counterparts.

The Nintendo Switch is set for release in March 2017.
