7 Things Battlefield 1 Doesn't Tell You

Battlefield 1 is a great game, but it sometimes forgets to tell us things and we're often left having to discover stuff all on our own. To speed up that process, we decided to point out some of the biggest things B1 never tells you, that you should know!

When you hop into Multiplayer, most people will go directly to Quick Match or Server Browser to find a game and start playing. However, off to the side is a new tab called Operations, and it may very well be the best new game mode added to Battlefield 1!

Operations is a large scale battle, held out over several maps. Before we talk about the many benefits of the game mode, we will say that Operations takes a long time to play, with some matches lasting over an hour. It takes a long time to play, but it's worth it!

On to the many good points. Firstly, Operations is a mix of all the game modes. It has Rush style objectives, but the maps are condensed, making the action fast and unrelenting. There is also a dash of Conquest added in. Instead of exploding, objectives must be held in order to proceed to the next two and as you get further and further in, more vehicles spawn.

Lastly, you are given multiple attempts to obtain an objective. If you run out of tickets, the match resets and you try again. If the defenders hold you off every time, then the game ends. However, if the attackers win, you move on to the next map. That's right, Operations takes place over 2 and even 3 maps.

The game mode is so unique, and fun to play that it's tough to sum up in words. The best thing you can do is get out there and play!

For those of us out there who love the vehicular combat, there is a big new addition to the game that can go completely overlooked. All vehicles can now self repair!

There are two main types of self repair. The first is a loadout based one. This kind of repair goes off instantly, restoring a small amount of health, then has a long cooldown. The second type of repair requires you to hold down a specific button. As you do, a circle begins filling up. Once full, you will fix any broken parts on your vehicle and gain around 25 health. However, during this time, you lose control of your vehicle, so make sure you are safe. Also, any damage you receive while trying to repair will cancel it.

Self repairs are very useful, as the vehicles in Battlefield 1 are more prone to taking damage, due to their weaker, older construction. They also take a considerable amount of time to complete, making them a balanced new addition to the game.

One of the annoying parts of older Battlefield games was constantly adjusting your loadout. You might like playing a certain class, but depending on the map and your enemies, your loadout might need to change to compensate for what the other team is doing.

Now, you can have multiple loadouts saved. By clicking the class emblem in the lower left section of the selection screen, you can cycle between 3 saved loadouts. This is a great new addition, that lets you always be prepared without having to dig through menus between deaths!

EditSpotting has Been Improved and Reworked

One of the more annoying bits of Battlefield has been spotting. It's often been hit or miss, sometimes being too strong, or useless.

In Battlefield 1, spotting works wonders. Firstly, spotting is based on your zoom distance. If your gun zoom in very far, then you can spot things further away. If you have no or limited zoom, you can only target things up close. Also, to balance spotting, it now doesn't last as long, as in past games it would often feel like you were spotted for hours at a time.

Lastly, to add an incentive to spotting, there are now big point rewards for doing it. Any time a spotted target is killed, the person who marked the enemy gets points, and more so if it's a squad related kill!

This is a smaller addition, but a fun one. When running, if you hit the crouch button, you'll go into a slide. While sliding, you can still aim and shoot, allowing for some fun situations to arise.

For instance, if you're storming a building, rush the doorway then slide through it. People will be expecting a standing target, not a fast moving person to be sliding along the floor. This is also useful for getting behind cover while running!

Doing things as a Squad has never been more rewarding. The bonuses for teamwork have been amped up, so you should always try your best to find a good squad, and stick with them.

Reviving squadmates, healing them, giving them ammo and even following your squad leader's orders will reward you with experience points. Not only that, but helping get a kill with a squadmate will also give you the kill if you did enough damage. A good squad will earn far more experience per match, then a solo player focusing just on their K/D ratio.

This is a video game, so we understand if you skip over the Codex at first. It's found under the Soldier screen, and you'll slowly unlock more of it as you complete specific tasks, which are listed in the Codex so you know what must be down.

The Codex itself is a cliffnotes version of World War 1. It has great information about the guns you're using, the factions you're fighting for and against and the locations that battles take place. It's a great resource for learning more about the game, and about an event in our real lives that shaped the future of the world we live in!
