After just thirteen days at the worldwide box office, Suicide Squad has earned over half a billion dollars, Warner Bros. Pictures has announced.
David Ayer's new comic book film, which beat Guardian of the Galaxy's August debut record, currently stands at a global total of $509 million. Domestic earnings are just over $238 million, while the international number currently stands at $271 million. It's important to note that Suicide Squad has yet to open in a couple of other territories, with the film debuting in Germany this weekend and in Japan next month.
Suicide Squad managed to remain the domestic box office leader during its second weekend, despite a massive, 67 percent second weekend drop.
"It is incredibly rewarding to see audiences around the world coming out in such a big way for Suicide Squad," Warner Bros. Pictures worldwide distribution president Veronika Kwan Vandenberg said in a statement. "We have several major markets yet to open, and expect to continue seeing strong returns at the box office for the weeks to come."
Worldwide marketing and distribution president Sue Kroll also spoke to the film's box office success, saying, "We’re thrilled with the huge numbers on Suicide Squad, and to be coming out of an already highly successful summer with such a big win for our slate. The film is in position for another terrific weekend as our overseas expansion continues."
