While FX's upcoming Legion television series will serve as a standalone piece based on the greater X-Men universe, the movie franchise's godfather Bryan Singer has confirmed the show will connect in some way with future X-Men films.
During the Edinburgh Television Festival (as conveyed by The Hollywood Reporter) Singer said that while Legion will be a "part of the X-Men universe" it can "exist completely on its own." That said, he also went on to note that both Legion and another, as of yet untitled upcoming X-Men TV series "will relate to future X-Men movies" and that Legion will feature a "really ambitious and fun and very unique storyline."
Legion is being created by Fargo's Noah Hawley and tells the story of a diagnosed schizophrenic named David Haller (Dan Stevens) whose psychological manifestations may be more than just figments of his imagination. Meanwhile, that other live-action X-Men series from Fox and Marvel Television is being crafted by Burn Notice creator Matt Nix.
