After starring in the original Flatliners, Kiefer Sutherland is returning to join the cast of Sony's upcoming remake of the 1990 film.
According to Deadline, Sutherland's deal with the studio hasn't been signed yet, but he's committed to the project.
The actor joins a cast that includes Ellen Page, James Norton, Kiersey Clemens, Diego Luna and Nina Dobrev, and will play a "seasoned doctor" in the film. Sutherland will also star in ABC's new TV drama Designated Survivor.
The original Flatliners centered around five medical students who stop their own hearts in an attempt to trigger near-death experiences, spiraling into a dark and dangerous situation with paranormal ramifications.
Niels Arden Oplev, who directed the Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, is on board to helm the Flatliners reboot, with a script penned by Source Code writer Ben Ripley. Production is scheduled to kick of later this week in Toronto.
