Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is kicking Warner Bros.' DC Extended Universe into high gear, setting up the next nine announced films in the franchise and establishing the groundwork for the cinematic universe of the Justice League.
Understandably, laying that groundwork means introducing a lot of questions to be answered farther down the road. With that in mind, here are the 10 biggest unanswered questions from Batman v Superman that we hope get resolved.
Yes, it seems to signify that Superman can and will come back, but what is actually happening with the dirt rising from Clark Kent's grave at the end of the film? Is it just Snyder's visual cue for the audience that this is not the end? Or is there some explanation that will become pivotal later?
The look on Diana Prince's face seems to signify no, but how has Lex Luthor been able to find evidence of The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg and yet Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman have never heard whisper of them? And vice versa -- The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg must know about the other three by now, right? And just what was Diana going to do with that picture once she got it?
When Lex Luthor went into the Genesis chamber, he came out with a whole lot of knowledge -- and, you know, Doomsday. The recently released deleted scene adds even more folds to this question.
What -- or who -- is Lex Luthor talking to when he's standing in the Genesis chamber? Why is it holding three Mother Boxes? Is this the first time Lex has been in contact with what seemingly is a representative from Apokalips? Did he know this is what he was getting when he requested Zod's ship? And just how much does Lex now know?
Suicide Squad is the next movie on Warner Bros.'s release date, and given many of the villainous characters -- some of whom are metahumans -- in that movie were (seemingly) captured by the Dark Knight, why is Bruce Wayne so surprised to find out about the existence of other powered people? Is there something more to that revelation that isn't apparent to us now?
Or was he just surprised to find out that there might be other good guys out there? And given Lex's awareness of metahumans and his relationship with the US government, did he have anything to do with the incarceration of these rogues prior to this point?
See above. Was it in that deleted sequence that Lex realized there was a darker entity out there? Had he been a pawn of Darkseid the whole time? Hopefully this will be elaborated in future stories, especially since Jesse Eisenberg would like to see his character evolve from just straight villain.
It's clear that Bruce Wayne's home estate is in a serious state of disrepair, but from what? Neglect? Fire damage? An attack by the Joker? With a solo Batman movie coming, there could be more backstory here than meets the eye.
One of the endlessly debated elements of Snyder's Batman is the fact he seemed to have no qualms about killing. While the most popular depiction of Batman is that he's averse to taking lives, there have been exceptions in various iterations of the character.
Regardless, it's a pretty big stance for a hero to take, so what is it that brought Gotham's dark knight to the point that this is the only way he knows to combat his enemies?
During Batman and Superman's fight, half of Batman's helmet gets hit off, revealing much of his face with Lois Lane standing right there. Considering how well known Bruce Wayne is, did Lois realize Batman's real identity?
There was little fallout to that reveal at the end of BvS, but given that "Lois is the key," it could be that she remains pivotal to Batman's story as the DCEU progresses.
Lex Luthor might not have gone full crazy until the end of BvS, but some of his actions were a bit transparent well before he set Batman and Superman to fight one another. Was he expecting to get caught during the process of defeating a god? It seemed like the only outcome possible considering the aftermath of the Capitol bombing and Doomsday release.
There were only two victims of the Doomsday attack: Superman, and Clark Kent. When (inevitably) Superman returns, how is Clark Kent's reappearance going to be explained? Will everyone know they're the same person? Will Superman stop using a day-to-day identity? Or will it never be dealt with because maybe it's not the biggest deal, but darn it, we want to know?
What are your biggest unanswered questions from BvS? Do you have any theories on the ones we listed above? Let us know in the comments!
