Turn 10 has unveiled its third salvo of confirmed cars for Forza Motorsport 7. This week’s theme is Japanese models and the list features JDM icons from the ’70s to the present day. None of the cars in today’s announcement are new the series but there are several that haven’t been seen in a Forza game since Forza Horizon 2 or Forza Motorsport 4.
The disappointing news, however, is that no Toyota production vehicles will be present in Forza Motorsport 7 (aside from the bespoke 2007 Toyota Hilux famous for carrying the former hosts of Top Gear to the North Pole, which comes via Icelandic engineering company Arctic Trucks). Previous Forza games have included cult Toyotas from the '70s, '80s, and '90s, including various Celicas and Supras. IGN contacted Microsoft for clarification. It was confirmed Toyota race cars will still appear in the game, but no explanation was discussed regarding why the company’s street cars are suddenly off-limits.
“Forza Motorsport 7 will feature more than 700 cars at launch, including 90 manufacturers and hundreds of additional licensed brands,” a Microsoft spokesperson told IGN. “While Toyota production vehicles will not be included in the game, there will be a number of Toyota race cars featured in Forza Motorsport 7.”
That list will arrive later, as the car reveals continue up to the game’s September launch.
Toyota is the largest producer of automobiles in the world, and the second-largest auto company in terms of revenue, behind Volkswagen Group. The amount of racing games the automaker seems happy to be in, however, seems to be shrinking (for instance, Toyota hasn’t featured in Codemasters’ Dirt series since Dirt 3 in 2011). The reason is unclear, and especially confusing in this instance considering Microsoft is a technology partner for the factory-backed Toyota Gazoo Racing WRC team (and the team’s cars and drivers are clad in Microsoft branding).

The first batch of 160+ cars revealed the week before last included the largest collection of Ferraris, Porsches, and Lamborghinis in any single racing game. Last week's reveal highlighted pre- and post-war vintage classics dating up to the late '60s.
Forza Motorsport 7 will be released on October 3 for Xbox One and PC and will feature 30 racing environments with over 200 ribbons, 700 cars, driver customisation, and dynamic weather.
