Daniel Dae Kim, who left Hawaii Five-0 alongside Grace Park over reported contract disputes, addressed his decision to leave the CBS drama after seven years.
While speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour for The Good Doctor, the upcoming ABC drama Kim produces, said he is grateful for what CBS executives and the show's producers have said, he remains steadfast in his decision.
"[Hawaii Five-0] was a really important part of my life for seven years, and i'm really grateful to CBS and everyone involved in the show for giving me the opportunity to be involved," Kim said. "I'm grateful to the words [the producers] said on the panel," he continued.
"That said, it's possible to be grateful... and respectful... and still maintain a steadfast sense of your self worth," Kim continued, noting he has closed the Hawaii Five-0 chapter of his life and is moving onto this new one, The Good Doctor.
Last week, CBS President Kelly Kahl said during the TCA press tour that "We never like to lose characters the audience loves off long-running shows. It's the nature of the business. We made very lucrative offers to those actors."
Kim previously commented in a public Facebook post addressing the exit after it had been revealed. The former Lost and Hawaii Five-0 star is producing The Good Doctor and not starring in the show, a decision he said he's comfortable with remaining behind the scenes for the time being.
"I'm really content being behind the scenes of this show," he said. "I'm constantly impressed by the performances I see as a fellow actor. It's been fascinating for me to watch their work as a producer," though he did say "At some point I'd love to play with them, they inspire me."
The Good Doctor premieres this September.
