Dragon Quest XI Sells 2 Million Copies In Two Days In Japan

1 million copies a day for two days,

During its first two days of release in Japan, the next iteration of the popular JRPG series Dragon Quest XI sold over 2 million copies.

Kotaku reports (via Famitsu) that the Square Enix title - which released in Japan last Saturday - has sold a total of 2,080,806 copies across the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS platforms.

The 3DS picked up over half of the sales with 1,130,468 copies sold at retail while 950,338 copies were sold for the PS4 which is still no small number. More impressively is that digital sales have not been taken into account for these totals, and the Switch version of the game hasn't yet been released.

Comparatively, The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild only sold 230,981 units for the first three days on both Wii U and Nintendo Switch. Even after its first 28 days the launch title had only sold 1.3 million units in North America.

Dragon Quest XI will see a release in the west sometime during 2018, though it's unlikely to mirror such incredible sales (or see a release of a version of PS4's weirdest controller).
