Aladdin Live-Action Movie Casts Its Jafar

Filming to begin this month.

Disney's live-action Aladdin remake may have found its villain.

Variety reports Marwan Kenzari, who recently appeared in this year's The Mummy reboot, is in final talks to play the villainous Jafar. The role was previously voiced by Jonathan Freeman in the 1992 animated classic.

Kenzari can be seen next in Murder on the Orient Express, playing train conductor Pierre Michel.

Kenzari joins a cast that includes Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, and Will Smith as Genie. Filming is set to begin this month, however no release date for the live-action remake has been set yet.

Guy Ritchie is directing from a script by John August (Big Fish). The inspiration for the film will be both the animated Disney hit, as well as the classic collection of stories One Thousand and One Nights.

Producer Dan Lin previously discussed how the filmmakers wanted to cast diverse leads for the remake and make a "movie that's authentic to the world."
