Secret Empire #0 - $4.99
STL041035

By writer Nick Spencer & artist Daniel Acuña | Marvel

Marvel's big summer event for 2017 gets an early start this week. But don't let the numbering fool you. Secret Empire #0 is less a prelude than a critical first chapter in this epic conflict. Now that Hydra's heads have unified and the pieces have been arranged on the chess table, Captain America is finally ready to make his move. It's time for the entire Marvel Universe to learn what readers have known for the past year - Captain America is secretly working for Hydra.

Expect a very eventful issue as Nick Spencer and Daniel Acuña set the stage for the massive war to come. But don't worry if you haven't been following Captain America: Steve Rogers. This issue serves as a perfectly accessible gateway into Secret Empire

Redneck #1 - $3.99
STL040747

By writer Donny Cates & artist Lisandro Estherren | Image

We've been very impressed by God Country over the past few months, so the fact that writer Donny Cates is kicking off another new creator-owned series at Image definitely piques our interest. Redneck puts a Southern-fried spin on the vampire genre, focusing on a group of immortal bloodsuckers trying to live a peaceful existence while running a barbecue joint in rural Texas. Naturally, that's easier said than done. We trust that Cates and artist Lisandro Estherren will deliver a comic very different from your average vampire story/

Batman #21 - $2.99
STL041113

By writer Tom King & artist Jason Fabok | DC

Batman is easily one of the best books in DC's Rebirth lineup. The fact that writer Tom King is being joined by superstar artist Jason Fabok is enough to include Batman #21 on this list. But there's also the fact that this issue is the first chapter in what promises to be the most important DC storyline since the start of Rebirth.

Batman #21 kicks off "The Button," a four-part crossover linking Batman to Joshua Williamson and Howard Porter's The Flash. Batman and Flash will be teaming up to investigate the mystery of the blood-stained button the Caped Crusader uncovered in the depths of the Batcave. Who left it there? How does it connect to Doctor Manhattan's larger manipulation of the DC Universe? And why are these two heroes revisiting the world of Flashpoint? We expect "The Button" will wind up raising more questions than it answers, but we're excited to see the DC Rebirth saga taking a major step forward this week.

Friandly Neighborhood Spider-Man by Peter David: The Complete Collection TPB - $39.99
STL037349

By writer Peter David & various artists | Marvel

Writer Peter David has a long history with Spider-Man, including the current Spider-Man 2099 series and the upcoming Ben Reilly: The Scarlet Spider. We're partial to his Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man run, which occurred during a particularly chaotic and compelling time in Peter Parker's costumed career. These issues flesh out Peter's time as a schoolteacher and New Avenger, as well as provide a closer look at the turmoil he went through during the original Civil War and the "Back in Black" storyline that followed. Plus, the trade features some work by the late, great Mike Wieringo, which is always a huge selling point.
