Original StarCraft and Brood War Are Now Free

Relive the 1998 classic.

StarCraft and StarCraft: Brood War are now completely free to download from Blizzard's official website.

The price drop comes alongside a new patch 1.18 that includes a list of features including Observer mode, autosaving replays, and other general improvements and bug fixes. A full breakdown of the changes is available in the patch notes on the site.

The move to make StarCraft free was announced last month alongside the remaster of the original StarCraft, but Blizzard waited until the patch today to actually offer free downloads. The remaster will feature all of the content from the original game as well as the Brood War expansion and is coming later this year, though Blizzard has not yet announced a specific release date.

StarCraft was originally released back in 1998 and its expansion Brood War nearly a year later in 1999.  To travel back in time, read our reviews of both the original StarCraft and Brood War, and stay tuned for more information on the upcoming remaster.
