"Margins the size of Kate Upton's fun bags!"

“Eat, Pray, Liv” felt a bit overly busy at times, juggling as many subplots as it was, but most of it was very solid material, with several characters plotlines furthered.
Poor Blaine. Seeing him watch Liv and his new pal Justin (adorably) experience the joy of video game dance, while absorbing his own grim fate, was a really well done moment. Major's issues also managed to dovetail with Blaine’s storyline, thanks to Ravi’s new, new cure, which may be able to save him minus the memory loss... unless it's fatal.
I’ve been a bit bummed that Ravi’s storyline for awhile has really only been centered on his feelings for Peyton, but here things got much more intense in that regard. Liv calling him out on not just talking her was well needed, and at the same time it was great to see Ravi bring up Blaine’s awful drug dealing/torture/murder background, as it’s important that all of those events aren’t just forgotten. Blaine’s memory loss is a device to keep him around on the show long past the point it would likely be sustainable for him as a straight up villain, but I always worry of what happened with Spike on Buffy occurring - where it feels like the writers strain to overlook past atrocities because they have a cool character played by a charismatic actor. Blaine and David Anders performance as Blaine have been a great part of the show, but… he did torture and kill people!
So what will happen when he takes that new cure? I doubt he’ll instantly be back to his old ways, but the writers have created an intriguing scenario to be sure.
And okay, yeah, Peyton coming over to try and make things work with Ravi, only for Katty to be there after she and Ravi slept together was straight up soap opera… but that stuff works when you care about the characters! And it worked here.
Angus and Don E. continue to be an excellent pairing - even as Angus made his presence known to his son, whether he recognized him or not. Angus and Don E have a great sparring chemistry together and while I’m guessing Angus won’t be around for the whole season (given Robert Knepper is in, you know, everything right now), their scenes together make me wish he could be.
I haven’t even mentioned the brain of the week scenario. It had its amusing moments, with Liv going all zen guru, but got a bit lost in the shuffle with all of the notable ongoing subplots going on. I know the show can’t always mix in Liv’s brains with the main plotlines, but Season 2 showed how satisfying it is when that occurs, so hopefully we can get more of that as Season 3 continues.
Lastly, let me note that in a show that -- while not strictly a comedy -- is consistently funny “I just got a report about a pimp yelling at a hooker in a car” made me bust out laughing.
The Verdict
Liv’s zen guru brain was fun, but the most notable moments this week came from Blaine realizing he was running out of options, Blaine possibly having to confront his past, and Ravi botching things up in a big way. Meanwhile, iZombie continues to be one of the most likable and funny shows on TV, with an episode like this spotlighting how easy it is to invest in these characters.
