Every Plot Detail Revealed About Star Wars: The Last Jedi

The Last Jedi made its grand debut during a panel at Star Wars Celebration.

Today at Star Wars Celebration 2017, we got our first major drop of Star Wars: The Last Jedi plot details from the film's panel, as well as the teaser trailer.

Here are some of the biggest things we learned, and the questions we still have.

Rey and Luke's Training

CHECK OUT THE LAST JEDI TEASER ABOVE.

The trailer showed us images of Rey training with Luke Skywalker on Ahch-To, the planet from the end of Force Awakens. She's sparring with her lightsaber, as well as levitating pebbles using the Force. But it doesn't seem like this will go quite how Rey hoped it would.

Picking up right where The Force Awakens ended, Daisy Ridley teased "Rey has a certain expectation as to what she might be getting from Luke and what that might entail. And as a lot of people might know, it's difficult when you meet your heroes because it might not be what you expect." This is apparent, given Luke's final, ominous line of the teaser, "It's time for the Jedi to end."

Luke is obviously having a crisis of faith, possibly related to the flashback/Force visions of him and R2 near the fiery destruction of some sort of structure – likely the Jedi academy where he instructed Ben Solo – that mirrors scenes from TFA.

Finn's Recovery

Elsewhere in the galaxy, Finn is going to be recovering from the wounds he received at the hands of Kylo Ren. During the panel, John Boyega said as the new movie begins, "It's been painful. It's been a process." He said he felt, "Finn definitely stood up for himself," but the injury is something he had to deal with and "He's in recovery, but he will be back in The Last Jedi." Our only glimpse of him in the trailer is when he's unconscious in some sort of medical container.

Poe, Leia, Phasma, and Kylo

We don't have a whole lot of information on Poe, other than him being aboard a Resistance cruiser that's under attack, culminating in what appears to be the destruction of his X-Wing. As far as his pal BB-8 is concerned, director Rian Johnson remarked, "He's the Buster Keaton of this movie. I'm excited for you to see what he does." Given Keaton's penchant for physical comedy and stuntwork, expect the droid to find himself in some sticky situations.

The teaser also gave us brief glimpses of General Leia contemplating over a star map, Kylo Ren holding his frayed saber and bearing his new scar, and Captain Phasma flanked by Stormtroopers amidst a fiery wreckage. There are also shots of dope space battles, so expect some of that in The Last Jedi.

New Characters, Planets, and Books!

In terms of new characters, we only met one, but she's certainly an important one. Actress Kelly Marie Tran will play Rose, a Resistance maintenance worker who Johnson says is the "biggest new part" in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Despite today shedding a bit of light on the above, it also introduced a handful of new mysteries. What are the mysterious books that appear on what looks like the tangled roots of a tree? What's the deal with those podracer-esque vehicles speeding towards the AT-ATs? Most importantly, what's the deal with that cool red dust kicking up behind them? We know the planet is called Crait, and that it has an old, abandoned rebel base on it, but that's about it.

We'll have plenty of time to speculate, theorize, and ultimately realize how wrong we are leading up to Star Wars: The Last Jedi's December 15 release.
