By Brian Michael Bendis, David Marquez & Andrea Sorrentino | Marvel
The penultimate chapter of Civil War II has arrived. Expect new complications in this war between heroes as Ulysses' visions become more unsettling than ever and Captain America and Spider-Man make a last-ditch effort to foster peace, all of which paves the way for one final, epic battle. Also look for Bendis to reunite with artist Andrea Sorrentino alongside regular artist David Marquez. But fret not, Sorrentino's pages fit every bit as naturally into the story as Olivier Coipel's did several issues back.
By Amanda Conner, Jimmy Palmiotti & Joseph Michael Linsner | DC
The bond between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy has been one of the strongest elements of Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti's long run. So the fact that this new story arc focuses squarely on their relationship definitely has us excited. This issue sees Harley and Ivy take their log-awaited beach vacation, where things will naturally go haywire. And who better to render the misadventures of two of DC's most dangerous ladies than Dawn creator Joseph Michael Linsner?
By John Layman & Rob Guillory | Image
It's the end of an era at Image Comics this week. Chew #60 marks the end of the long, sprawling story of Detective Tony Chu. Well, more of an epilogue, really, but this issue is certainly required reading for fans of the series. We have no doubt John Layman and Rob Guillory will be able to do justice to their quirky creation. And if you haven't given the series a chance before now, maybe it's time to finally dig in.
By Mike Costa & Gerardo Sandoval | Marvel
Venom has experienced some pretty huge changes in recent years, becoming first a government assassin and then a Guardian of the Galaxy. This new series seeks to both return the character to his early '90s roots and tell a completely different sort of Venom story. But just who's wearing he costume these days? Is it Flash Thompson? Eddie Brock? Someone entirely new? We're not telling, but fans of Venom, Mike Costa's writing or Gerardo Sandoval's bold art style will want to check out this issue.
By Brian Azzarello & Juan Doe | AfterShock
AfterShock Comics' appeal is pretty simple - pair talented writers and artists on new creator-owned series and let the magic flow. That approach has certainly worked out for American Monster. This series is at once comfortable familiar (with Brian Azzarello tackling the hard-boiled noir genre he does so well) and strikingly different (thanks in no small part to Juan Doe's art). If you've missed out on this new series, this trade paperback serves as the perfect opportunity to get caught up.
