The upcoming movie based on Stephen King's The Dark Tower series has reportedly been delayed.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the movie has been pushed from its original February 17 debut to sometime next summer.
The outlet's sources say that while the film wrapped production in July, post-production work won't be completed in time for a February 2017 debut. The studio needs more time to work on the movie's visual effects, as well as additional time to promote the film. As such, theaters are now being informed about the delay.
"It’s a very fiscally responsible budget, and trying to stay in budget to make money and stay profitable means the VFX won’t be finished in time," an anonymous source told EW, noting that given the extra time, "they’re not paying rush charges to get the effects where they need to be."
The Dark Tower has yet to receive a new release date, as the studio is still deciding on a specific weekend. An announcement is expected to be made as soon as a new date has been decided.
