The second chapter of The Clone Conspiracy shed new light on the challenges facing Peter Parker in the months to come.
Warning: this article contains spoilers for The Clone Conspiracy #2!
As if being confronted with the resurrected Gwen Stacy and Doctor Octopus wasn't bad enough, Spider-Man discovered just how deep the Jackal's latest cloning rabbit hole goes in this issue. It seems Dr. Warren has brought back every single person that has ever died on Spider-Man's watch, be they friend or foe.
But just as Spidey started to wonder if maybe Jackal's New U technology really is as wonderful as advertised, he found himself whisked away by Gwen. He soon learned that this Gwen Stacy is actually the alternate universe Spider-Gwen, who has kidnapped and replaced Jackal's resurrected Gwen. Spider-Gwen revealed that she's secretly working with Scarlet Spider to infiltrate Jackal's organization and prevent Parker Industries from forming an alliance with New U.
They have a pretty good reason, too. In their journey through the multiverse, Gwen and Kaine have discovered 12 different Earths that became zombie-ravaged wastelands after Peter Parker and Miles Warren joined forces and unleashed New U upon the globe. So it seems that the true villain of The Clone Conspiracy isn't the Jackal at all, but rather Spider-Man himself.
Expect even more twists to come when The Clone Conspiracy #3 hits stores on December 7.
