Mafia 3 Shipped 4.5 Million Copies in First Week

No word on copies sold through.

Mafia 3 sold-in, or shipped to stores, 4.5 million copies in its first week on the market, making it the fastest-selling game in the history of 2K Games, according to parent company Take-Two Interactive.

Take-Two Interactive announced the sales mark today in a earnings report, noting that the figure is higher than any other 2K-published title, which includes the NBA 2K, Borderlands, and BioShock franchises, according to the Washington Post.

It's important to note, however, that the 4.5 million figure is units sold to retailers, not units sold through to consumers. 2K did not provide numbers for how many copies of Mafia 3 were actually sold to consumers.

Last month, IGN reviewed Mafia 3 and said that the game had "a fantastic story and cast of characters" but was "held down by some familiar, uninspired gameplay."
