Hideo Kojima Praises Westworld's Game Design Theories

It's all in the details.

Hideo Kojima, like a lot of people, is watching Westworld, and he says some of its theories surrounding the world's design are after his own heart.

On Twitter last night Kojima said: "Watched "Westworld" E2. What Anthony Hopkins said in that story was an exact theory of my game design."

Anthony Hopkins plays Dr. Robert Ford in the show, the creative director of Westworld, a Western-themed amusement park populated by androids.

In the second episode, Ford says "They come back because of the subtleties, the details. They come back because they discover something they imagined well-known they haven't noticed before, something they fall in love with. They are not looking for the story that tells them who they are. They already know who they are. They are here because they wanted a glimpse of who they could be."

Video games are a recurring theme on the show, with creator Jonathan Nolan specifically calling out Red Dead Redemption, Skyrim and Bioshock as key influences. Last week's episode leaned particularly heavily on the game aspects of the show's central role-playing park - which you can read about in our review (spoilers inside).

Kojima is well known for creating intricate, highly detailed worlds, and he clearly agrees with the sentiments from the TV show.

Hideo Kojima is currently working on Death Stranding, and earlier this year he said he "could never stop making games."
