$2.75 million up for grabs.

BlizzCon 2016 took place over the weekend, and part of the celebration of all things Blizzard were the world championship tournaments for Blizzard's competitive games.

Competitors in the tournaments battled for a piece of a prize pool totaling $2,750,000 USD.

The BlizzCon tournaments represent the culmination of months of work on the parts of the individuals and teams taking part. The world champions crowned during the event are the "pinnacle of competitive play" in Blizzard's games. Here are the tournaments and their respective winners.

  • StarCraft II World Championship Series Global Finals Winner: ByuN
  • Hearthstone World Championship Winner: Pavel
  • Heroes of the Storm Fall Championship Winning Team: Ballistix Gaming
  • World of Warcraft Arena World Championship Winning Team: Splyce
  • Overwatch World Cup Winning Country: South Korea

In its path to the win in the Overwatch World Cup during BlizzCon, the South Korean team didn't lose a single match, making it a clear dominant force in the world of competitive Overwatch.

During BlizzCon, Blizzard announced the formation of a new Overwatch League, as well as revealing the newest Overwatch character, Sombra. Blizzard calls the League a "world-class sports ecosystem" for competitive Overwatch.
