DayZ Devs New Game Looks Minecraft-ish

From zombies to Minecraft?

Bohemia Interactive, the developers of Arma 3 and DayZ, are working on two new games, one of which is a Minecraft-esque title aimed squarely at younger players.

As part of a video unveiling their new development initiative, Bohemia Incubator, the developer showed glimpses of Ylands and Project Argo. The latter is a reworking of Arma 3 designed to deliver a "more focused, faster-paced" multiplayer shooter experience, making it pretty familiar territory for the team. Ylands, however, comes from a new internal team, marking a significant departure from Bohemia's bread and butter.

As you can see, Ylands has a fair bit in common with Minecraft, though its creation tools are more far reaching, essentially allowing players to create their own games, not unlike Project Spark or Little Big Planet. In the above video, Bohemia Interactive's CEO, Marek Spanel, says that Ylands came about partially because "...more of us here...have children now, [so] we wanted to create a game platform for kids."

Both Ylands and Project Argo are part of the newly announced Bohemia Incubator program, which sounds an awful lot like Steam Early access, though Spanel warns that games in the Incubator program will be far earlier in development and much more experimental in nature. He even plainly states that "we may even decide to cancel or stop supporting an Incubator game," but he also goes on to say that, for that very reason, many Incubator titles will be playable for free in some way.

You can find out more about the Bohemia Incubator program in this official blog post.
