Battlefield 1 Tops Sales for October

Waging wars.

According to figures released by industry analysts The NPD Group, the top selling game for October 2016 was Battlefield 1.

Sales of software in October, propelled along by triple-A releases like Battlefield 1, Mafia III, and Gears of War 4, helped push overall software sales to $539 million, an increase of 36% over October 2015.

Hardware sales for October, on the other hand, saw a 20% decrease over last year. Microsoft's Xbox One topped October console sales, and overall the Xbox One saw an increase of 8% from the same period in 2015.

Nintendo's 3DS saw its fifth straight month of growth, when compared with the previous year, in October. "Unit sales and consumer spending for October grew 12 percent," for the 3DS, according to NPD.

Here are the top selling games for October 2015.

  • Battlefield 1
  • Mafia III
  • Gears of War 4
  • FIFA 17
  • NBA 2K17
  • Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
  • WWE 2K17
  • Civilization VI
  • Titanfall 2
  • Madden NFL 17

Gears of War 4, an Xbox One exclusive, came in third place for the month. However, sales figures gathered by NPD for Gears of War 4 only counted physical copies, meaning it's likely Gears of War 4 would have landed higher on the list had digital sales counted towards its total. Bethesda's Elder Scrolls: Skyrim remaster also charted this month, similarly without digital sales figures factoring in.
