Angela Bassett Joins Marvel's Black Panther

Even more star power.

Academy Award nominee and American Horror Story star Angela Bassett has joined the cast of Marvel's upcoming Black Panther movie.

Bassett will take on the role of Romanda, mother of T'Challa, Marvel announced.

This isn't Bassett's first comic-movie role, as she also starred in Green Lantern as the first live-action portrayal of Amanda Waller.

The news is the latest in a slow-trickle of casting stories, as the film adds more star power to its roster. In October, Forest Whitaker joined the Black Panther cast as elder statesman Zuri.

Previous to that news, reports of Winston Duke taking on the role of villain M'Baku came out, as well as news of Michael B. Jordan playing Erik Killmonger.

Inspiration for the film is coming directly from the current run of Black Panther comics. During San Diego Comic Con, Director Ryan Coogler called writer Ta-Nehisi Coates' run on Black Panther "just incredible."

American Horror Story was recently renewed for a seventh season, and Black Panther is set to release in February 2018.
