7 Things to Do First in Pokemon Sun and Moon

When you begin your Pokemon Sun and Moon adventure, there are a few things to keep in mind so you can get the best start possible. Here are the seven things to do first in Pokemon Sun and Moon.

You won’t have a lot of money early in the game, but with Pokemon Refresh, you can heal your Pokemon’s status conditions — like poison, paralysis, or burn — for free after battle. If you want a few status items for emergencies during battle, look carefully while walking around and you’ll find Poke Balls on the ground that often contain items like Antidotes and Awakenings. You’ll get all you need for free and will be able to save money for Potions and Poke Balls instead!

Go to the Cafe inside the Hau’oli Outskirts Pokemon Center and purchase a drink to receive a free healing item as a bonus (once per day), plus Poke Beans to feed your Pokemon in Pokemon Refresh and some good advice for getting started.

You’ll want Poke Balls in order to catch a good team early on, but always buy them in groups of 10 — you’ll receive a free Premier Ball, which has the same catch rate as a regular Poke Ball, as a bonus. Get more bang for your buck!

In Pokemon, you earn money primarily by winning Pokemon battles. If you want enough cash for important items, new clothes, or a snazzy haircut, you’re going to have to battle a lot. Your Pokemon also gain more experience from trainer battles than from battles against wild Pokemon, so you’ll level up more quickly. Don’t avoid any trainers!

In addition to battling all trainers in your path, make sure you talk to every NPC around. Some will give you small side quests, like showing them the Pokedex entry of a certain Pokemon, and you can earn easy money or hard-to-get items from doing it.

As soon as you’re able to, use Pokemon Refresh to increase your Pokemon’s affection toward you. Feed them Poke Beans, pet them, and groom them after battle (by pressing Y as the battle is ending and the Pokemon Refresh prompt pops up). It’ll give you an experience boost in battle for faster leveling… and it’s cute!
