Warning: Contains spoilers for all of AMC's The Walking Dead through Season 6
With AMC already green-lighting an eighth season before Season 7 premieres this Sunday, October 23rd, The Walking Dead continues to prove that it is a modern-era TV juggernaut with no end in sight. Plus, with Rick and his crew of hardened survivors going up against their most formidable enemy to date -- Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan -- it's clear that things are more dangerous than ever on the show and viewer anxiety is at an all-time high.
But we're not here to get all caught up in who Negan's going to kill or speculate on who the victim might be. In anticipation of the show's big return, we've updated out list of The Walking Dead's best episodes so far.

Made to Suffer
Season 3, Episode 8
Season 3 may have fizzled out by the end, but its midseason finale was on point. Tyreese entered the picture as Rick and his rescue team led an all-out machine gun assault on Woodbury to save Glenn and Maggie. A big, action-packed episode that ended with a hotly anticipated showdown between The Governor and Michonne. A brawl that cost the ol' Gov his eye and his - ahem - daughter. After this episode, there was no turning back for Rick's gang and the citizens of Woodbury.
No Sanctuary
Season 5, Episode 1
Season 5 hit the ground gruesomely with one of the series' best action showcases. Rick and his crew left local cannibal haven Terminus is a smoldering ruin - with badass (and exiled) Carol aiding her team from the outside, creating a huge explosion and taking down the town's barriers. Our heroes stormed their way through meat-eaters, both human and zombie, and made it to safety. And in the end, Rick and Carl were reunited with baby Judith, who they assumed had died back at the prison.
Season 5, Episode 14
A major recurring theme/question in Season 5, after escaping Terminus and then running into the cowardly Father Gabriel, was "who was now fit to live in this world?" Should it truly become survival of the fittest or did the strong have an obligation to nurture and carry the weak? Well, "Spend" gave us the worst case scenario as Glenn, Noah, Eugene, and Tara went out on a run with a couple of cocky, craven Alexandrians and wound up paying the ultimate price because of their new comrades' cowardice. It's the best episode out there if you were looking for top notch "Ricktatorship" propaganda.
18 Miles Out
Season 2, Episode 10
Marking the end of creator Frank Darabont's stint with the series as showrunner, "18 Miles Out" took Rick and Shane (and a creep named Randall) away from the farm and out on the open road - down to a public works station so that Rick could finally confront Shane about the grim Otis events we'd witnessed back in "Save the Last One." What ensued was a massive clash between ideologies. And then a massive clash between fists. A violent brawl between the two occurred, followed by some freaky, hair-raising zombie close-calls. Particularly Shane being trapped inside a school bus and quickly losing ground to a swarm of walkers.
Days Gone Bye
Season 1, Episode 1
The coma that started it all. "Days Gone Bye" took comic book fans on a wonderfully faithful adaptation of Robert Kirkman's first ever Walking Dead chapters, involving Rick Grimes awakening into a world of horror and his subsequent journey to Atlanta with hopes of finding his wife and son. A poetic and scary introduction to the world of Walking Dead, this double-sized pilot hooked us all as we followed one man's plight to make sense of a destroyed civilization.
