Sony has introduced two-step verification for PlayStation Network accounts, adding an optional layer of security to its online network.
Activating this new feature will require PSN users to input a verification code (sent via text message) in addition to their password upon signing into their account. Two-step verification is recommended for any password-protected account, as it provides an additional level of protection should an unwanted party obtain your password.
Those with PSN accounts can enable two-step verification through the PlayStation website.
Sony recently revealed it's raising the price of PlayStation Plus for yearly and three-month plans in the U.S. and Canada. A yearly subscription will now cost $60 USD/$70 CAD, with three-month memberships rising to $25 USD/$30 CAD.
Sony has also launched its PlayStation Now streaming service for PC, first debuting the functionality in Europe with plans to launch soon in the U.S.
In other Sony news, the company is all but certainly set to reveal a slim version of the PlayStation 4. The rumored console will reportedly ship alongside an upgraded DualShock 4 controller, featuring an additional light bar across the top of the touchpad.
The slim model is expected to be revealed at PlayStation Meeting, a PlayStation-focused event taking place September 7 at 3pm ET. Sony's upgraded PlayStation 4 console, codenamed Neo, is also expected to be revealed on that day.
