Respawn has responded to player feedback following the first weekend of the Titanfall 2 tech test, vowing to change several key elements of gameplay.
In a lengthy blog post, multiplayer game designer Steven DeRose explains in detail why certain changes were made for the second game, and how player worries about them will be addressed.
The post is absolutely worth a read (if only because seeing a designer explain their designs is always interesting), but a list of the key changes being made is below:
- After being slowed to improve gunplay, Pilot movement while in the air or wall-running will be made faster again.
- Chaining wallruns will now help increase and retain speed.
- Obtaining a Titan was previously only possible by playing objectives - now, Pilots will build up the Titan meter passively too.
- Titan dashes will recharge faster.
- A more traditional Titanfall map (increased opportunity for parkour etc.) will be available in this weekend's test.
- Pilots will now be marked with friend/foe outlines at a shorter distance to prevent easy sniping.
As DeRose puts it, "some of these changes have already been addressed and will be updated for weekend two of the tech test, with other changes making it into the final game."
It's worth pointing out that some elements of negative player feedback won't be addressed, as the Tech Test can't showcase the full scope of the game.
DeRose highlights the new rodeo system that sees Pilots stealing batteries from enemy Titans (a system that needs to be learned), relative Titan speed (the fastest Titans are not yet playable), and the "busy" HUD (can be customised in the final build).
The second Titanfall 2 tech test begins this Friday, August 26, running until Sunday, August 28. After something a little different than multiplayer? Here, come find out why the game's new campaign is so surprising.
