Marvel has announced it is bringing back the Great Lakes Avengers for a new monthly comic series.
This news comes via Nerdist. The new comic series will be written by Zac Gorman, with illustration from Will Robson.
The Great Lakes Avengers first appeared in 1989 in West Coast Avengers #46, but this will be their first ongoing series. As the name suggests, they're a group of heroes from the Great Lakes area, and the revival will include Mr. Immortal, Flatman, Big Bertha, and Doorman.
Here's Marvel's description of the new book: "When the team gets reinstated as permanent members of the Avengers and uprooted to Detroit, the GLA has one more shot at Super Hero glory... but can they answer the call? Do they even have 4G coverage here? Find out!"
"I've always loved C-list characters, the obscure characters, and the comedy stuff," Gorman told Nerdist. Editor Tom Brevoort said "Great Lakes Avengers as a concept is somewhere on the bell curve between Deadpool and Squirrel Girl."
"I think that Doorman is going to be the breakout star," said Gorman. "He’s kind of got a smaller part in the series, but his moments land pretty well."
In other comic news, here's another classic that was also recently announced as making a return.
