Comic-Con 2016: William Shatner and More Star Trek Alums Join 50th Anniversary Panel

The original Captain Kirk and several Star Trek alums will take the stage for the franchise's 50th Anniversary panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

CBS announced today that the "Star Trek: Celebrating 50 Years" panel will take place on Saturday, July 23. William Shatner (Star Trek) will take the stage alongside Scott Bakula (Star Trek: Enterprise), Michael Dorn (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), Jeri Ryan (Star Trek: Voyager), and Brent Spinner (The Next Generation). The panel promises a reflection on the last five decades of Star Trek, as well as a look forward to the upcoming 2017 TV series. It will be moderated by Bryan Fuller, executive producer of the new series.

SDCC will also be home to the "50 Artists. 50 Years" exhibit, which showcases artwork inspired by the Star Trek series, including the last piece from Leonard Nimoy, while merchandise for the series will be available throughout the convention showfloor. Other Trek panels include (all times PT):

  • Trek Talks Science: Smithsonian and Star Trek (Friday, July 22, 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.): A look at Trek technology in the real world, as well as a peek at the original Starship Enterprise, which will be featured at the National Air and Space Museum in its fully restored state.
  • Star Trek: The Roddenberry Vault (Saturday, July 23, 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.): A retrospective of Star Trek featuring "never-before-seen clips and photos from some of Star Trek's most beloved episodes."
  • Trek Talks: Star Trek & NASA Boldly Go (Saturday, July 23, 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.): A panel taking a look at Star Trek's influence on NASA and how the agency's vision of the future matches and differs from the Star Trek universe, featuring various members of NASA.
  • Star Trek The Official Starships Collection: Designing and Filming Starships (Saturday, July 23, 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.): Star Trek concept designer Rick Sternbach and visual effects producer Dan Curry outline the process of bringing starships to life and how that process has evolved since the series' inception.
  • Star Trek: Five Decades of Comics (Friday, July 22, 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.): A retrospective of Star Trek's presence in comic book form.
