Wolverine/Deadpool Crossover Would Require Major Restructuring

No cameo in Logan, either.

While Deadpool writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese would love to bring Hugh Jackman's Wolverine into the world of Ryan Reynold's Deadpool, there's simply no room for a crossover the way things are laid out right now.

When asked by The Playlist if Jackman's involvement would affect Fox's current plan, Reese said, "Yeah, it would, if you think about it."

He then cited 20th Century Fox's plans for Deadpool 2 and Deadpool 3as well as X-Force, saying, "there’s not necessarily room for [another] team-up movie. I think it does create real scheduling and universe issues and something that could be ironed out, but it would need to be ironed out."

Reese went on to say he doesn't think anyone on the behind-the-scenes team ever considered such a crossover would even be possible prior to Deadpool's release. As such, "it’s still not in the plan, but if it were to happen, it would require a hard look at the overall architecture of our storylines."

Despite the major restructuring that would need to take place, there's still an interest in making it happen. "It would be amazing to have Hugh resurrect Wolverine in the Deadpool universe," Wernick said. "Ryan’s making a hard push to make that happen, and hopefully the public gets behind it and we can all convince Hugh to put the claws on one more time."

As far as Deadpool's rumored cameo in Logan, Reese was quick to shoot down those reports while also confirming that Reynolds won't be in a post-credits scene either. "Yeah, that’s not happening," he said, noting that "the tones are just too different." Reese said it may happen in a future film, as Jackman and Reynolds are "really close" and "really do want to see these characters come together," but it won't be in Logan.

Logan opens in theaters on March 3, 2017. Reynolds said he's seen some of the film and believes it could contend for an Oscar.
